Visible Construction

The IL Centre was built as a teaching tool. Where possible, the building's construction is open to view. As well, the mechanical systems are visible: fan power boxes (FPB) and variable air volume boxes (VAV) can be seen, as well as internet cable trays, power conduits and ducting.

In several places, cut-outs have been made in the building's foundations and walls, to illustrate how a building looks on the inside. Gauges are visible on the radiant in-floor heating and on the plumbing systems in several rooms, as well. All of the hallways and the ducts in the office and lounge spaces have no ceilings, and their systems are open to view - ductwork can be traced from room to room, and it is labeled by function and direction.
